Book Review: Tequila Mockingbird

Now that I am done with the toughest quarter I have had yet in gradschool, I figured it was time to get back to my sorely neglected blog. First up a post that has been in draft form for months.

tequilamockingbirdSo for my birthday a while back (you know, 6 months or so), knowing that I am a literature fiend and a bit of a booze mixer, a friend got me the book Tequila Mockingbird. I was so excited! New drink recipes right? With cool literary names. If you have been reading my blog at all you will know I love coming up with themes of food and drink around games, books, or whatever else comes to mind.

Wrong. So wrong. The majority of the book is not only drinks the average bar goer had way back when they were buying their first drinks, but are as basic as rum and Coke. I wish I were joking.

I get it, it is probably meant to be a cutesy thing to buy a friend that they can have it on their coffee table. That being said I would point out that probably about 80% of the book is very standard recipes, like a greyhound, or a screw driver with the exciting addition of another fruit. If your friend likes literature and has no idea about how to make drinks, or how to use the internet to find recipes. This is the book for them.

So while the thought was in the right place when this was given to me, I happily passed this book along to someone I thought would get more use out of it while also appreciating the literary references.
